Midori Climate Partner and MITSUSHO to develop biochar carbon removal projects

Midori Climate Partner has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MITSUSHO to jointly develop biochar carbon removal projects in Malaysia.

This strategic collaboration brings together Midori Climate Partner, a Singapore-based leader in carbon credit development and ecosystem restoration, with MITSUSHO, a prominent provider of greenhouse gas (GHG) consultation and ESG services in Malaysia. The partnership aims to offer comprehensive project structuring support to biomass suppliers, including food processing factories, forest management companies, and farmers’ cooperatives, who will serve as project owners.

Project owners, who will supply biomass waste such as coconut shells, durian seeds, and wood chips, stand to gain several significant benefits. The financial backing from carbon credit sales will enable the development of high-quality projects, creating opportunities for profit generation, supplying biochar-based organic fertiliser to community farmers at affordable prices, implementing advanced waste management through a circular economy model, and producing green energy.

The partnership is actively seeking biomass suppliers capable of providing substantial quantities of biomass waste for the initiative. In Malaysia, there is a particular interest in coconut shells, fruit seeds, wood chips, and pulp sludge, though other suitable materials are also welcome.
