Africa’s largest mining microgrid project unveiled

SANY Silicon Energy has announced the launch of the Zambia Ruida Mining Microgrid Power Project which features a 13 MWp solar photovoltaic (PV) system, a 39 MWh battery energy storage system, and a diesel generator backup. It is the largest project of its kind in Africa. It aims to ensure reliable electricity for mining operations while promoting energy self-sufficiency, reducing reliance on conventional energy sources, and enhancing efficiency.

The integrated system combines solar, storage, and diesel technologies to deliver stable power under challenging conditions. The project progressed from the signing of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to commissioning within four months. The Zambia Ruida project lays the foundation for further sustainable initiatives. SANY plans to expand its green energy portfolio, actively contributing to Africa’s renewable energy future and advancing China’s role in the global energy transition.
