BDO has named Hannah Routh as the new head of its sustainability and ESG services practice in the UK, as the firm strengthens its environmental advisory expertise.
Routh, a specialist in sustainability and climate strategy, brings nearly three decades of experience to the role. She has previously led sustainability and climate advisory teams at Deloitte and PwC, working across Europe, Southern Africa, and Asia.
The UK’s environmental and sustainability consulting sector has expanded rapidly, reaching £2.9 billion in 2022, according to Environment Analyst. With the country moving towards a net-zero economy, demand for ESG advisory services is expected to surge to £4.9 billion by 2027.
In response to this rising demand, BDO has strengthened its ESG capabilities, with Routh overseeing services such as ESG reporting and assurance, climate and carbon advisory, supply chain due diligence, and sustainable finance strategies.
Routh has spent 12 years leading ESG-focused businesses within the Big Four. At Deloitte, she was responsible for the sustainability and climate change advisory division across the Asia-Pacific region before returning to the UK in 2020 to lead a similar practice. She also spent five years with PwC Hong Kong, where she led corporate sustainability strategies.
