Danish multinational energy company Ørsted’s Board of Directors has appointed Rasmus Errboe as the company’s next group president and CEO, replacing Mads Nipper, who will step down on 1 February 2025.
Nipper, who took on the role in January 2021, is leaving as Ørsted navigates a shifting renewable energy landscape marked by supply chain disruptions, rising interest rates, and regulatory changes.
“The renewable energy market has fundamentally changed since 2021,” said Lene Skole, chair of Ørsted’s Board of Directors. “The increasingly challenging offshore wind industry has shifted our focus, and the board has agreed with Mads Nipper that now is the right time for a leadership change.”
Errboe, currently deputy CEO and chief commercial officer, has been with Ørsted since 2012 and joined its executive management team in 2022. His previous roles include interim group CFO, regional head of Europe, CFO for offshore operations, and head of mergers and acquisitions. He played a key role in Ørsted’s 2016 IPO and oversaw the divestment of its oil and gas business in 2017.
Errboe also serves on Ørsted’s executive board, is registered as an executive with the Danish Business Authority, and is a main board member of the Confederation of Danish Industries.
He holds a master of law from Copenhagen University and an MBA from the University of San Diego.
Errboe said, “I’m honoured to lead a company I’ve been part of for 13 years. With our skilled team, we will work to create value for customers, shareholders, and stakeholders. Ørsted has a strong foundation, and I look forward to steering the transformation needed to overcome current industry challenges. Offshore wind remains vital to the green transition, and we are committed to a future powered by renewable energy.”
