To ensure long-term sustainable growth of Data Centres (DC) Singapore has come up with a Green Data Centre Roadmap that aims to provide an additional capacity of at least 300 megawatts (MW).
Dr Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State for Communications and Information shared the information about the Green DC Roadmap at the ATxSummit, the apex event of Asia Tech x Singapore (ATxSG) 2024.
He said that the Green DC Roadmap will ensure the long-term sustainable growth of data centres. Puthucheary said that being a compact city-state Singapore is uniquely positioned to innovate and pioneer solutions that may address the global challenge of sustainable DC growth.
“Through the additional capacity of 300 MW we aim to seed innovative ways to accelerate energy efficiency, as well as hybrid ways to unlock further capacity through green energy,” he said.
The Roadmap presents an end-to-end ecosystem approach and recognises the role of DC operators as catalysts in forging partnerships across the multi-faceted ecosystem that can bring together solutions partners to attain the broader sustainable development goal.
The roadmap also outlines the Infocomm Media Development Authority’s (IMDA’s) plans to partner with the industry to push boundaries and accelerate DC sustainability on two fronts, energy efficiency and green energy.
The roadmap will accelerate data centres’ energy efficiency at both software and hardware levels and will allow end-users to set up best-in-class technologies that can maximise capacity, efficiency and economic potential. It will also fast-track the use of green energy by data centres to expand their capacity and explore ways to deploy the plan at a large scale.
