ERM launches offshore hydrogen production trials

ERM, a sustainable consultancy, has initiated innovative offshore trials of its Dolphyn Hydrogen process at Pembroke Port, South Wales. This process which has been in development for six years, integrates electrolysis, desalination, and hydrogen production on a floating wind platform.

Hydrogen is then transported to shore via pipeline, where it can be used directly for power generation, transport, industrial purposes and heating. The process does not require an electrical connection and provides a pathway to low-carbon energy generation without associated grid constraints or consumption of energy from other renewable sources.

The project has received over £8 million ($8,607,639) from the UK Government’s Low Carbon Hydrogen Supply 2 Competition within the £1 billion Net Zero Innovation Portfolio.
