TotalEnergies, an energy company, has partnered with French aerospace manufacturer Daher and airport operator Groupe ADP to launch a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) offering at Paris-Saclay-Versailles Airport, marking a significant step towards the decarbonisation of air transport.
The SAF is produced by TotalEnergies using waste and residues from the circular economy and is incorporated with up to 35% conventional kerosene. The mixture has technical properties similar to aeronautical fuel that doesn not require modifications to aircraft or fuelling infrastructure. It allows a reduction in CO2 emissions of up to 30%, over the entire life cycle, compared to its fossil equivalent.
This initiative emphasises decarbonisation and aims at positioning Paris-Saclay-Versailles Airport as a leading centre for sustainable aviation. Additionally, the airport features electric charging stations for light aircraft, aviation-adapted SP 98-type fuel, and electric refuelling vehicles to lower ground operation emissions.
Louise Tricoire, Director of Aviation and Marine Fuels at TotalEnergies said, “Sustainable aviation fuels are essential for reducing CO2 emissions from air transport. We also aim to produce 1.5Mt of SAF by 2030.”
Nicolas Chabbert, CEO of the Daher aircraft division highlights the importance of SAF, “The promotion of these fuels to our customers is important, since 2022, we have been using the mixture of Jet A-1 and SAF on our TBM and Kodiak aircraft for flight operations at our French industrial site in Tarbes-Lourdes-Pyrénées, or at airports where it is available. Daher is strongly committed to the transition towards carbon neutrality by 2050.”
