ACCIONA has been awarded a contract by the Madrid regional government to build and operate what is set to become the largest fully renewable public electric vehicle (EV) charging hub within the city’s M-30 ring road.
The facility, with a total installed capacity of 4,000 kilowatts, is scheduled to be completed and operational by 2027. It will feature 20 ultra-fast charging points of up to 400kW — 19 for passenger cars and one for heavy-duty vehicles — as well as a battery-swapping station for Silence electric vehicles.
Located at 276 Paseo de la Castellana, opposite Madrid’s Four Towers business district and within the future Madrid Nuevo Norte development area, the 1,281-square-metre site will redevelop a former petrol station into an electric mobility hub.
ACCIONA will operate the facility for 30 years. The hub will run on 100% certified renewable electricity and include on-site solar panels for self-consumption. The company said the installation is expected to generate a net annual surplus of more than 35,000 kWh. Additional features include a photocatalytic façade designed to reduce air pollutants and a real-time renewable energy traceability system.
The site is designed as a mobility hub, integrating charging infrastructure with user services under a single canopy. Facilities will include a vending area, accessible restrooms and a multipurpose space for events and outreach related to electric mobility.
The project incorporates sustainable building materials such as wood, photocatalytic ceramic and locally sourced natural stone.
ACCIONA currently provides access to more than 5,000 charging points across Spain and Portugal in urban areas and along major intercity corridors.
