The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in sustainable infrastructure development and promote green growth.
The agreement was signed by AIIB President Jin Liqun and NIB President and CEO André Küüsvek, with representatives from both institutions in attendance.
Commenting on the partnership, Jin said: “Formalising this partnership with the Nordic Investment Bank marks an important step forward. It underscores our shared vision of advancing sustainable development and tackling global challenges through collective action. Together, we aim to expand access to sustainable infrastructure financing, foster inclusive growth, and accelerate the shift to a low-carbon future.”
Küüsvek added: “This MoU reflects our intention to engage in long-term institutional cooperation. While NIB’s primary mandate is to finance projects that enhance productivity and benefit the environment within our region, we have a history of working beyond these boundaries. This collaboration with AIIB reinforces our commitment to global engagement in infrastructure financing and sustainable economic growth.”
The MoU outlines multiple areas of cooperation, including the joint identification and sharing of investment opportunities, collaboration on corporate governance, human resources, IT, legal services, and policy frameworks. It also facilitates knowledge exchange and joint research in areas such as clean technology and climate change. Through this partnership, AIIB and NIB seek to combine their expertise to elevate the effectiveness and impact of sustainable infrastructure investment, reinforcing their mutual commitment to environmentally sound and inclusive development.
