Arkema signs eight-year biomethane supply deal with ENGIE

Arkema has entered into a new eight-year agreement with French energy firm ENGIE for the supply of biomethane to four of its Bostik production sites in France. The deal will provide 25 GWh of biomethane annually, covering approximately 85% of the gas consumption at Bostik’s Coubert, Privas, Ribécourt and Venette sites.

The move builds on a previous long-term contract signed in early 2023 for the supply of 300 GWh of biomethane across Arkema’s operations in France.

The latest agreement reflects growing momentum in industry efforts to shift towards lower-carbon energy sources. Biomethane, a renewable gas produced from organic waste, is increasingly being used by manufacturers seeking to reduce their environmental footprint and align with national and EU decarbonisation targets.

Edouard Chevalier, Managing Director for Risk Management and Origination at ENGIE, noted that the agreement strengthens the energy provider’s ongoing collaboration with Arkema and reinforces its position as a key biomethane supplier in France.

Arkema’s Bostik business, which specialises in adhesives and sealants, is one of the company’s key divisions. The group is pursuing a broader strategy to reduce emissions and adapt its industrial operations to a lower-carbon economy.

Arkema reported sales of approximately €9.5 billion in 2024 and operates in around 55 countries with over 21,000 employees.
