Beyond Zero has unveiled a new carbon insetting initiative, Transition to Net Zero Insets, at the Groundswell event, aiming to incentivise UK farmers and landowners to take early action on climate goals. The programme rewards efforts in emissions reduction, carbon sequestration, and biodiversity restoration, and is aligned with the UK Carbon Code of Conduct (UKCCC).
The initiative allows farmers to generate verified carbon insets—emission reductions that can be claimed by supply chain partners to help lower their Scope 3 emissions. It promotes practices such as improving soil carbon, restoring habitats, reducing greenhouse gases, and adopting regenerative agriculture, all monitored through a digital portal.
“Farmers know they need to act, but the road to Net Zero isn’t straightforward,” said Beyond Zero CEO Vaibhav Kadikar. “With Transition Insets, we’re offering a practical way to reward climate action now—not just when perfection is reached.”
Participating farms commit to a five-year plan, with annual benchmarking across emissions, soil health, biodiversity, and food production. Those achieving a robust Net Zero baseline may progress to generating UKCCC-compliant High Integrity Credits.
To support on-farm climate action, Beyond Zero has partnered with Oxbury Bank to offer access to its Transition Facility—financing that supports interventions improving soil and cutting emissions. Other funding options are also available to cater to diverse farm needs.
Carolien Samson, Head of Sustainable Banking at Oxbury Bank, said: “We’re thrilled to partner with Beyond Zero. Their rigorous data-driven approach enables farmers to access our Transition Facility and farm more sustainably.”
