BII launches initiative for climate investment in emerging economies

British International Investment (BII), the UK’s development finance institution and impact investor, has unveiled a new initiative under its recently launched £100 million ($127 million) Mobilisation Facility to channel private capital into emerging economies often overlooked by global investors due to perceived risks.

In collaboration with global investment firm Mercer, BII will issue a Call for Proposals inviting asset managers to present innovative investment strategies designed to leverage concessional capital and attract private investment into climate-related projects in these economies.

Set to launch early next year, the initiative will target asset managers with proven expertise in climate finance and a focus on emerging markets. Up to £50 million from the Mobilisation Facility will be allocated to successful proposals, alongside potential access to non-concessional investment funding from BII.  Proposals will be evaluated on their potential for significant mobilisation, impact, scalability, and sustainability.
