Envision Energy and Marubeni sign green ammonia offtake deal

Envision Energy has signed a green ammonia offtake agreement with Japan’s Marubeni Corporation. The agreement is considered one of the first of its scale and highlights growing confidence in the commercial viability of green ammonia as an emerging low-carbon energy solution.

The partnership links Envision’s green hydrogen-ammonia technology capabilities with Marubeni’s extensive global trading network, enabling the large-scale production and distribution of green ammonia across the Asia-Pacific and beyond. The deal is expected to support industrial decarbonisation in sectors such as chemicals and fertilisers, while contributing to Japan’s broader energy transition objectives.

Frank Yu, Senior Vice President at Envision Energy, noted the growing role of hydrogen-ammonia in reshaping global energy systems. “Together with Marubeni, we are accelerating the commercialisation of ammonia, turning it into a key energy solution that powers the world’s transition to carbon-neutral fuels,” he said.

Envision is currently developing what is described as the world’s largest commercial green hydrogen-ammonia facility. Powered entirely by renewable energy from integrated wind and solar systems, the site is expected to produce 300,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually in its initial phase, with plans to expand to 1.5 million tonnes per year.

The agreement is seen as a benchmark for future ammonia trade and highlights the growing importance of hydrogen-based fuels in achieving international climate targets.
