Envision Energy has partnered with UK-based Statera Energy to deliver the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) for the Carrington Storage Project — one of the UK’s largest single-site battery projects, with a total capacity of 680 MW / 1360 MWh. The project has reached financial close, marking a major milestone in the nation’s shift towards a flexible, intelligent, and low-carbon power system.
Located at Trafford Low Carbon Energy Park in Greater Manchester, the Carrington facility is expected to be energised by late 2026. Once operational, it will provide enough power for approximately 2.2 million homes for up to two hours, enhancing grid resilience, reducing renewable curtailment, and supporting the UK’s energy security and net-zero ambitions.
The project brings together key financial and industrial players including Statera Energy, Lloyds, Statkraft, NatWest, Santander, Siemens Bank, SEB, and Mizuho, underscoring growing investor confidence in large-scale energy storage as a critical enabler of the clean-energy transition.
Envision Energy will supply its AI-driven BESS, designed for advanced renewable integration, efficiency, and system longevity. Its proprietary Large Energy Model enables real-time monitoring, grid-forming control, and adaptive learning to improve system performance and revenue predictability. The system’s “forecast-dispatch-trade-self-learning” closed-loop algorithm marks a shift from experience-driven operations to model-driven optimisation — positioning energy storage as a next-generation “artificial intelligence asset.”
“As one of the largest BESS sites in the UK, the Carrington Storage Project is another important step toward realising the country’s clean-energy ambitions,” said Henry Peng, Senior Vice President and President of Latin America and Europe at Envision Energy. “We are honoured to collaborate with Statera and leading energy and financial partners to deploy our AI-powered solutions, advancing Statera’s goal of over 5 GW of BESS capacity by 2030.”
Matt Arnold, Director of BESS & Flex Gen at Statera Energy, added: “We selected Envision for their proven expertise in large-scale energy storage and their integrated AI-led approach. This collaboration strengthens our ability to deliver flexible, reliable energy to the UK grid and supports the country’s low-carbon transition.”
Envision Energy has been expanding its European footprint with renewable and energy-storage projects across the UK, France, and Spain. The successful rollout of the Carrington Storage Project will further reinforce its presence in Europe’s fast-growing clean-energy market.
