ESMA and EEA Sign MoU to boost cooperation on sustainable finance

The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) and the European Environment Agency (EEA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening collaboration on sustainable finance within the European Union.

The agreement focuses on the integration of environmental considerations into the EU’s sustainable finance framework, including its supervision. Under the MoU, the two bodies will exchange expertise, data and information, while also engaging in joint capacity-building initiatives.

ESMA and the EEA have committed to facilitating cooperation between national securities regulators and environmental authorities across member states, and to enhancing policy dialogue on key areas of the EU’s sustainable finance agenda.

Both institutions stressed that their collaboration is intended to avoid duplication of efforts, generate synergies, and address pressing environmental challenges, including biodiversity loss, climate change and pollution.
