The European Commission has published the list of members appointed to the third mandate of the Platform on Sustainable Finance, which advises the Commission on the EU Taxonomy and the wider sustainable finance framework.

Following a call for applications in July 2025, the Commission appointed 28 members and 16 observers from across the public and private sectors. Appointments were based on candidates’ expertise in environmental and sustainable finance, as well as professional experience and technical knowledge of sectors covered by the EU Taxonomy. The Commission said it also considered geographical and gender balance. The Platform brings together representatives from business, civil society and academia, alongside experts serving in a personal capacity.

The Commission has reappointed Helena Viñes Fiestas as chair of the Platform. Viñes Fiestas is a commissioner at Spain’s financial markets authority and co-chair of the UN Taskforce on Net Zero Policy.

Maria Luís Albuquerque, Commissioner for Financial Services, said: “With this new mandate, the Platform on Sustainable Finance will help us make the EU Taxonomy and the wider sustainable finance framework simpler, clearer and more usable — without lowering our level of ambition. Our goal is to ensure that sustainable finance works for the real economy and effectively supports Europe’s transition, investment and competitiveness.”

The new mandate will run from February 2026 to the end of 2027. During this period, the Platform will provide advice on the Commission’s sustainable finance simplification agenda, including revisions to existing EU Taxonomy criteria and the development of criteria for new economic activities. Stakeholder input through the Platform’s request mechanism will continue to inform its work.
