Garanti BBVA digitises sustainability loan applications

Garanti BBVA has made its sustainability loans available through mobile and internet banking, shifting a product previously limited to branches into digital channels. Corporate clients and retail customers can now apply online for financing to cut carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency and support environmental projects, gaining faster access to funds while reducing time, costs and paper use.

Executive Vice President Cemal Onaran said the move builds on the bank’s long-standing role in sustainable finance, which includes green and social loans, eco-vehicle financing, sustainable bonds, and advisory services for environmental and social investments. He added that digitalising sustainability loan applications will “improve access, speed and efficiency, support clients’ decarbonisation and energy-efficiency plans, simplify their processes and align with our aim to help lead Türkiye’s transition to a low-carbon, more inclusive economy.”

The bank offers sustainability loans at preferential rates for projects ranging from climate change mitigation and natural capital protection to circular economy initiatives, sustainable agriculture, water efficiency and social infrastructure. Borrowers must document project spending with invoices, ensuring funds are channelled into genuine sustainability activities.

Garanti BBVA has already met its 2018–2025 sustainable-finance target of TRY 400 billion in the first half of 2025. It has now raised its goal to TRY 3.5 trillion for the period 2018–2029, implying around TRY 3.1 trillion of new funding for sustainable investments between mid-2025 and the end of 2029.
