Garanti BBVA surpasses TL 1 trillion in sustainable finance by January 2026

Garanti BBVA has surpassed TL 1 trillion ($22.9 bn) in sustainable finance as of January 2026, marking a key milestone towards its target of TL 3.5 trillion for the 2018–2029 period.

The bank said the achievement reflects its long-term focus on sustainable finance, with funding directed towards areas including renewable energy, women’s entrepreneurship and social infrastructure. Garanti BBVA said its approach extends beyond financing, with advisory support for clients on issues such as decarbonisation strategies and climate risk management.

Garanti BBVA’s sustainability framework is aligned with international transparency and management standards. In CDP’s 2025 assessment, the bank received an ‘A’ rating across all three categories—climate change, water security and forests—placing it among a small group of financial institutions to achieve this result.

Mahmut Akten, Chief Executive Officer of Garanti BBVA, said sustainability is embedded across the bank’s operations. He said processes ranging from resource allocation to risk management are being reshaped with a focus on climate and nature, alongside investments supporting renewable energy, green transformation, inclusive growth and social impact.

Akten said surpassing the TL 1 trillion threshold was “a concrete demonstration of the trust our investors, customers and other stakeholders have placed in us,” adding that the bank aims to support a more resilient and sustainable future. He said Garanti BBVA would continue to position sustainable finance as a key driver of transformation in Türkiye.
