GE Vernova Inc. and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have signed a strategic framework agreement aimed at supporting AWS’s data centre expansion while addressing growing global energy demand, enhancing grid security, and advancing decarbonisation efforts in the electricity sector
Under the agreement, GE Vernova will provide AWS with a range of solutions across North America, Europe, and Asia to support the electrification and decarbonisation of its data centre operations. The collaboration will focus on:
- Electrification Systems – GE Vernova will supply turnkey substation solutions to improve AWS’s grid connectivity, expand electrical infrastructure, and optimise substation design.
- Renewable Energy – The companies will explore opportunities to advance onshore wind development projects.
- Power Generation & Services – GE Vernova will assess further power generation solutions for AWS and collaborate on energy transition research, project development, and financing through its accelerator businesses.
Pablo Koziner, Chief Commercial Officer at GE Vernova, stated, “We are excited to work in collaboration with AWS as they advance their computing capabilities and data centre capacity. We believe that GE Vernova is well positioned through its broad portfolio of energy products and services to help AWS obtain reliable, cost-effective, and more sustainable electricity for its data centres in support of their growth objectives.”
AWS will provide cloud services to GE Vernova, supporting its digital innovation and cloud migration efforts, including the integration of generative AI. The collaboration will also involve the deployment of AWS High Performance Computing (HPC) to optimise digital technology solutions and improve operational efficiency.
Both companies will explore opportunities to leverage AI, big data, and cloud-based analytics to accelerate GE Vernova’s energy transition goals. AWS will continue its partnership with GE Vernova’s Electrification Software business to support the AWS Cloud deployment of software for the electric grid, power generation, and manufacturing industries.
Howard Gefen, General Manager, Energy & Utilities at AWS, noted, “Through this expanded collaboration with GE Vernova, we’ll be able to accelerate data and energy efficiencies, driving reliable and more sustainable operations. Our shared goals of addressing increased global energy demand, advancing grid security, and decarbonizing electric power systems will help our customers across the globe.”
GE Vernova has previously worked with AWS to host several of its software solutions in the AWS Cloud, including applications from its GridOS® orchestration software portfolio and Asset Performance Management systems.
Financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.
