Google has announced a commitment of over $4 million to support two water replenishment projects in partnership with Arable Labs, aimed at conserving more than 500 million gallons of water over the next eight years across North and South Carolina.
The initiative will enable the deployment of smart irrigation technology across 20,000 acres of farmland in the region. Arable’s system provides real-time data on weather, soil moisture, and crop conditions, helping farmers make informed irrigation decisions that optimise water use and enhance resilience in agricultural water management.
The projects form part of Google’s broader target to replenish 120% of the freshwater it consumes by 2030. In addition to reducing water use, the initiative is expected to contribute to long-term watershed health and regional water security.
