The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) has confirmed a series of governance updates across two of its key oversight bodies, effective 1 January 2026. The changes include the appointment of Jane Diplock as Chair of the Supervisory Board, which oversees the organisation’s strategic direction.
Diplock, a former Chair of IOSCO, succeeds Jessica Fries after two years on the Supervisory Board. Fries steps down following the completion of her six-year term. Bola Adeeko will remain Vice Chair for the remainder of his term, while Jyrki Raina departs after six years of service. Two new members will join the Supervisory Board: Peiyuan Guo, Chairman of SynTao Green Finance in China, and Sue Longley, former General Secretary of the International Union of Foods (IUF) in Switzerland.
“I am delighted to be appointed Supervisory Board Chair of GRI and honoured to succeed Jessica Fries,” Diplock said. “The GRI Standards play a vital role in ensuring organisations provide valuable and accessible sustainability information… Together, we can ensure that sustainability reporting unlocks corporate accountability and is the catalyst for change.”
Reflecting on her tenure, Fries said it had been “a privilege to help steer GRI’s response” to major developments in the reporting landscape. “GRI’s new strategy seeks to address this complexity while also cementing a recognition of the importance of a multi-stakeholder, impact focus at the heart of the global reporting system,” she added.
Stakeholder Council adds new members
GRI has also appointed four new members to its Stakeholder Council, the multistakeholder advisory forum that provides recommendations to GRI’s governance bodies. The new members are:
- Rupam Baruah, Business Head – Sustainability Services (South Asia), Bureau Veritas – India
- Gabriel Hasson, Global Head of Governance and Shareholder Advisory, ICR – USA
- Cesar Sanches, Founder and Managing Director, SFX – Brazil
- Michiel Slinkert, Founder and Director, Eevery – Belgium
Several members will depart upon completion of their terms: Tuba Atabey, Clara Goyret, Paul Farella, Ozdemir Haluk, Crecentia Carina Mofokeng and Denis Lu.
Erdem Kolcuoğlu, Chair of the Stakeholder Council, thanked the outgoing members for their contribution and welcomed the incoming cohort. “I also extend my congratulations to Jane, and I look forward to continuing to engage closely with her… to ensure GRI’s priorities continue to be shaped and informed by the voices of all stakeholders,” he said.
Diplock is a seasoned governance professional with extensive experience across sustainability standards, financial regulation and impact reporting. She previously chaired the IOSCO Executive Committee and the Securities Commission of New Zealand, and currently holds roles with the World Benchmarking Alliance, A4S and Persefoni AI, among others. In 2004, she was awarded the Order of Australia for her contribution to business and commerce.
GRI’s governance includes a two-tier board structure comprising a Management Board and Supervisory Board, complemented by the Global Sustainability Standards Board (GSSB), Stakeholder Council and Due Process Oversight Committee, each with defined responsibilities for standard setting and organisational strategy.
