A new case study series from the Global Reporting Initiative highlights how licensed digital tools are helping organisations turn complex ESG data into clear, decision-ready insights.
Titled ESG Reporting in Action, the series showcases real-world sustainability reporting journeys, illustrating how companies are using software solutions to manage ESG data more efficiently, reduce manual processes and improve data quality. The series is available on YouTube and features practical examples from GRI Licensed Software and Tools Partners and their clients.
Each episode explores why organisations began sustainability reporting, the challenges of managing impact data, and how digital tools are streamlining workflows, strengthening processes and enhancing confidence in reported information.
The series opens with a case study featuring PlanetWise, a GRI-verified ESG management platform, and its client, the Climate and Conservation Consortium. The episode examines how automation and alignment with GRI Standards helped transform fragmented carbon data into targeted, actionable insights. Further episodes scheduled for release later this year will feature organisations across a range of sectors and regions.
John Knights, Director of Services at GRI, said the series demonstrates how licensed digital solutions are being applied in practice to strengthen sustainability data and simplify reporting processes. He noted that closer collaboration with digital providers through GRI’s Licensing Program ensures organisations have access to tools that deliver accurate, consistent and actionable sustainability information.
ESG Reporting in Action has been released via GRI’s official channels, with each case study designed to help reporting organisations learn from peers, avoid common pitfalls and make better use of sustainability data.
GRI’s Licensing Program works with software providers to ensure digital tools accurately incorporate the GRI Standards. GRI analysts review how the Standards are implemented within platforms, provide feedback based on market best practices, and authorise providers to present their solutions as GRI-verified once requirements are met. This process gives users confidence in the robustness of licensed platforms and their application of the Standards.
More than 100 GRI Licensed Partners currently operate globally across multiple regions and languages. These tools are supporting organisations in managing ESG data, meeting disclosure requirements and building stakeholder trust, while shifting sustainability reporting from fragmented, labour-intensive processes to integrated platforms that deliver strategic value beyond compliance.
