H&M to procure green energy from Indonesian state electricity company PT PLN

Indonesian government-owned electricity distribution corporation PT PLN has signed an agreement to supply 210 Gigawatt hours (GWh) of green energy annually to global fashion company H&M Group. This collaboration supports decarbonisation efforts in Indonesia’s industrial sector.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Green Energy as Services (GEAS) was signed by PLN’s Executive Vice President of Enterprise Sales and Customer Service, Nayusrizal, and H&M’s Regional Country Manager of China and Southeast Asia, Jessica Wilhelmsson.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo emphasised PLN’s commitment to mitigating climate change by offering electricity from environmentally friendly sources. “As a company that holds the leadership of energy transition in the country, PLN appreciates H&M’s steps to participate in using PLN’s green energy. This is a milestone in efforts to encourage energy transition and sustainability in the country’s fashion industry,” Darmawan said.

Edi Srimulyanti, Director of Retail and Commerce at PLN, noted that the GEAS service, set to be utilised by H&M Group in 2025, caters to industrial customers requiring green electricity from PLN’s renewable energy plants. This service includes an internationally recognised Renewable Energy Certificate (REC).

“Together, we will explore innovative approaches to accelerate the use of green energy in Indonesia, benefiting PLN, H&M, the wider community, and the environment,” he said.
