Iberdrola invests €1m in TRIBBU to support sustainable urban mobility

Iberdrola has invested €1 million ($1.17 million) in TRIBBU, Spain’s urban car-sharing platform, as part of its international PERSEO programme, aimed at supporting innovative and sustainable start-ups.

The investment, which leads TRIBBU’s latest financing round, strengthens Iberdrola’s focus on sustainable mobility solutions and its broader commitment to reducing emissions through innovation.

TRIBBU — formerly known as Hoop Carpool — connects users to share journeys within cities. Having initially targeted companies and universities, the platform is now expanding its services to individual users. It currently counts 55,000 registered users and has facilitated over 500,000 trips. With Iberdrola’s backing, the company aims to reach 15 million shared journeys by 2027, potentially avoiding more than 60 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions.

Each journey made via the app generates certified energy savings, which are converted into financial incentives for drivers and passengers through Spain’s Energy Saving Certificates (CAE) system, endorsed by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO). Users can earn around €1 per shared journey through the platform’s “Bono Energético” (Energy Voucher) scheme.

Iberdrola said its investment brings both financial support and strategic expertise to TRIBBU, enabling the start-up to expand its environmental impact and promote low-emission transport alternatives across Spain’s urban areas.
