JP Morgan appoints new global head of sustainable solutions

JP Morgan has promoted Chuka Umunna as the global head of sustainable solutions. This role is in addition to his current role as EMEA Head of Green Economy Investment Banking at the company. In this strategic role, Umunna will lead JPMorgan’s ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) investment banking practices, directing a global team focused on developing sustainable solutions and facilitating access to capital in equity, debt, and private markets.

Umunna brings over 20 years of experience spanning law, politics, and finance to this position. Prior to joining JPMorgan in April 2021, he was the Global Co-Head of ESG at Edelman, a top strategy and communications firm. His political career includes nearly a decade as the Member of Parliament for Streatham and a role as the UK’s Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Innovation, and Skills.

In his new role, Umunna will lead ESG investment banking, drive green economy initiatives, and implement ESG strategies for JP Morgan.

Umunna’s previous experience includes leading Edelman’s ESG consultancy, holding non-executive director roles at BC Partners, Vista Equity Partners, and Digital Identity Net UK, and working as a corporate employment lawyer at Herbert Smith Freehills LLP. He is also an active contributor to various publications on business and sustainability topics.
