Lena Julle has been officially named Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) at Inter IKEA Group, effective 1 May 2025, following her interim tenure in the role since September 2024.
Julle, a long-time IKEA veteran with over 30 years at the company, previously served as Sustainability Manager at IKEA Range, where she led efforts to develop sustainable and affordable products aimed at enabling low-impact, healthier lifestyles for customers worldwide.
Her appointment comes as the group intensifies its climate and circularity goals. In FY23, IKEA strengthened its climate ambitions to align with the 1.5°C pathway and the Science Based Targets initiative’s (SBTi) Net-Zero Standard. The updated targets aim to halve greenhouse gas emissions across the full value chain by FY30 compared to FY16, and to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.
The company’s comprehensive sustainability targets span sourcing, manufacturing, logistics, retail operations, customer use and end-of-life of products.
Commenting on her new role, Julle said: “The IKEA goal—to be more affordable, accessible and sustainable, particularly for those with limited budgets—has been close to my heart throughout my journey at IKEA. We now have an incredible opportunity to design smarter and more sustainable products while advancing our climate agenda and supporting a fairer society.”
CEO of Inter IKEA Group, Jon Abrahamsson Ring, welcomed the appointment: “Lena’s leadership and deep understanding of IKEA have already strengthened our journey toward net zero. As Acting CSO, she made meaningful progress in advancing our sustainability strategy. I look forward to continuing this important work with her.”
Julle will succeed Pär Stenmark, who is set to take on a new role within the Inter IKEA Group. Her appointment also reflects the company’s focus on embedding sustainability throughout its operations and accelerating its transition to a circular business model.
