Mars Incorporated has unveiled the Mars Climate School, an e-learning initiative designed to empower its global workforce with the knowledge and tools to take meaningful climate action — at work, at home, and within their communities. The launch underscores the company’s commitment to sustainability and its goal of achieving a Net Zero future.
Hosted on Mars University, the company’s global learning platform, the six-hour Climate School course takes participants through three modules — Climate Basics, Climate for Business, and Climate at Mars. The programme explores the science of climate change, its impact on business, and Mars’s roadmap to Net Zero, while providing actionable insights and practical tools.
The Climate School is mandatory for senior leaders and managers across Research & Development, Supply, Commercial, and Corporate Affairs — functions seen as critical to delivering Mars’s sustainability goals.
“Our Climate School is more than just training; it’s part of a movement to empower our people to lead the way toward a sustainable future,” said Alastair Child, Chief Sustainability Officer at Mars. “It demonstrates our dedication to transparency, innovation, and collective action in tackling climate change.”
Alessandro Bussi, Global Supply and Technology Staff Officer, added: “When our Associates understand the ‘why’ and ‘how’ of climate action, we unlock new ideas and drive innovation. For us, building a sustainable future is a shared journey.”
Developed in partnership with Project Drawdown, a global leader in climate solutions, the curriculum is grounded in robust science. The course combines video lessons, interactive modules, and real-world examples to help participants move from awareness to action.
Thousands of Mars Associates have already completed or enrolled in the Climate School, with a target of 80% completion by the end of 2025. Graduates are recognised as “Climate Heroes” — individuals who champion sustainability within their teams and inspire wider behavioural change.
Mars says the initiative is part of a broader mission to foster sustainability literacy and inspire action beyond its own operations. The company encourages others to explore its Net Zero roadmap and to access free educational materials developed with Project Drawdown.
“By upskilling our Associates, we’re building a climate-competent workforce that understands the scale of the challenge and is ready to act,” Mars said in a statement. “Together, we can turn commitments into action and create a future where people, pets, and the planet thrive.”
