Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), TotalEnergies, and EPointZero, the decarbonisation arm of 2PointZero, have signed a Framework for Action (FFA) agreement to increase clean energy access in emerging markets across Africa and Asia.
The agreement was formalised during the third plenary meeting of the UAE-France High-Level Business Council in Paris. It follows discussions between UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and French President Emmanuel Macron, in which they reaffirmed the strategic partnership between the two nations and explored areas of cooperation in climate action, energy, artificial intelligence, and advanced technology.
Under the agreement, Masdar and TotalEnergies will collaborate to expand sustainable electricity supply to communities in Africa and contribute to the region’s long-term energy transition. In Southeast Asia, the two companies plan to develop new clean energy initiatives. Meanwhile, TotalEnergies and EPointZero will explore opportunities to support India’s clean energy targets, focusing on solar, wind, and energy storage solutions to advance the country’s decarbonisation efforts.
The agreement was signed by Masdar’s Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, Stéphane Michel, President for Gas, Renewables, and Power at TotalEnergies, and Peter Abraam, Chief Strategy and Growth Officer at IHC. The signing was witnessed by Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Chairman of Masdar, Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies, and Mariam Almheiri, Group CEO of 2PointZero.
Masdar CEO Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi described the agreement as a key step in providing clean energy solutions for underserved communities, contributing to socio-economic growth, and supporting the global energy transition. Stéphane Michel of TotalEnergies highlighted the long-standing energy partnership between Abu Dhabi and TotalEnergies, now extending into renewables in high-growth markets. Mariam Almheiri of 2PointZero emphasised the role of the partnership in scaling up renewable energy and energy storage across India, Africa, and Asia, supporting decarbonisation and economic development.
The UAE-France High-Level Business Council was established in July 2022 to enhance economic collaboration between the two nations. It serves as a platform for private-sector investment initiatives, contributing to a shared commitment to a low-carbon, sustainable future. The two countries have maintained a Comprehensive Strategic Energy Partnership since 2022 and launched the UAE-France Bilateral Climate Investment Platform last year.
