Montana Technologies Corporation, the developer of the AirJoule atmospheric water generation technology, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Clairity Technology to integrate AirJoule units into Clairity’s direct air capture (DAC) carbon dioxide (CO2) removal operations. This partnership aims to enhance the performance of Clairity’s DAC reactors by regulating humidity and optimising operating conditions.
Clairity’s DAC process captures CO2 from the atmosphere using an alkali carbonate sorbent coated on a ceramic honeycomb substrate. This sorbent absorbs CO2 molecules, producing a mixed stream of CO2 and air. The captured CO2 can then be sequestered in concrete, injected underground for long-term storage, converted into rock, or used to create sustainable products like aviation fuel. Montana Technologies’ AirJoule technology, known for its advanced dehumidification capabilities, will regulate humidity levels within the reactors, improving overall efficiency.

In February 2024, Clairity raised $6.75 million in seed funding led by Lowercarbon Capital and Initialised Capital. The funds have been used to develop its first commercial pilot project, with the initial reactor—capable of removing 100 metric tons of CO2 annually—expected to be deployed by the end of 2024. Clairity plans to scale up its CO2 removal capacity to 2,500 metric tons per year by 2025.
