Morgan Stanley Investment Management (MSIM) announced that its 1GT private climate equity strategy has led a growth capital investment in Corvus Energy, a Norwegian company specialising in low-carbon Energy Storage Systems (ESS) for electric and hybrid-powered vessels. The funding round also included participation from Just Climate and J. Lauritzen.
The consortium will provide capital, maritime expertise, and strategic partnerships to accelerate Corvus Energy’s expansion amid rising global demand for cleaner and more efficient maritime power solutions.
Vikram Raju, MSIM’s Head of Climate Private Equity Investing and the 1GT strategy, said the investment aligns with 1GT’s focus on maritime decarbonisation.
“Corvus Energy is the global market leader for a reason – their battery systems have an unmatched history of maritime safety, innovation and commercial competitiveness,” Raju said. “Maritime decarbonisation is a core theme for 1GT, and we are honoured to support Corvus in this next phase of the company’s growth.”
Founded in 2009 and headquartered in Bergen, Norway, Corvus Energy designs and manufactures advanced battery and energy management systems for vessels such as ferries, offshore service ships, and cruise liners. Its technologies support both zero-emission and hybrid operations, reducing fuel consumption and emissions across the maritime sector.
Fredrik Witte, Chief Executive Officer of Corvus Energy, said the investment will help the company expand its reach and scale production.
“We are excited to welcome 1GT, Just Climate, and J. Lauritzen as partners,” Witte said. “Their support affirms Corvus’s position as the market leader in maritime energy storage and provides the capital and strategic expertise needed to meet surging global demand for zero-emission solutions.”
Corvus Energy currently operates one of the world’s largest installed bases of maritime energy storage systems, with more than 1,300 installations across Europe, North America, and Asia, delivering over 1,300 MWh of clean power to vessels globally.
