The Malaysian Rubber Council (MRC) and the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC) have formalised a strategic partnership to accelerate the rubber industry’s transition towards net zero emissions.
In a joint statement, MRC said the collaboration builds on the successful development of The Low Carbon Transition Roadmap for Malaysian Rubber and Rubber Product Manufacturers: Thriving in a Net Zero Economy, co-developed by both agencies. The roadmap provides a structured framework for the sector to cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and adopt sustainable practices aligned with Malaysia’s national climate goals.
Under the new MoU, the two organisations will shift focus from strategy to implementation. Key initiatives include capacity-building programmes on GHG management, the development of an industry-specific emissions tracking tool, and sectoral benchmarking to assess the industry’s readiness for net zero transformation.
The collaboration aims to strengthen technical expertise among rubber product manufacturers and equip them with tools to measure, manage, and reduce emissions effectively. So far, over 50 MRC member companies have taken part in the council’s GHG management programmes, signalling growing industry momentum towards sustainability.
The partnership also supports Malaysia’s National Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030) and the goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050, while aligning with the National Agricommodity Policy 2021–2030 (DAKN 2021–2030) under the Ministry of Plantation and Commodities.
By joining forces, MRC and MGTC are setting a precedent for cross-agency collaboration in advancing low-carbon operations and upskilling industry players — paving the way for a resilient, competitive, and sustainable Malaysian rubber sector.
