PSP Energy partners with Shell for 2026 carbon offset programme

Malaysian fuel and bunkering specialist PSP Energy Berhad has officially formalised its participation in the Shell Carbon Compensation Programme (CCP) 2026. The agreement, signed today at Menara Shell, marks a renewed commitment by the company to address unavoidable carbon emissions generated by its fuel-intensive operations across the marine and commercial sectors.

Under the framework of the programme, Shell calculates the lifecycle carbon emissions of the fuel consumed by PSP Energy and retires an equivalent number of carbon credits from its global portfolio of nature-based projects. This collaboration provides a pragmatic decarbonisation pathway for industries such as logistics, construction, and mining, where high-density fuels like diesel remains essential for operational continuity.

Ong Chee Seng, Group Managing Director of PSP Energy Berhad, emphasised the strategic importance of the move, “This signing represents a significant milestone in the Company’s ongoing sustainability journey. As an organisation operating within essential fuel and marine-related sectors, PSP Energy acknowledges that decarbonisation is a gradual process requiring practical and scalable solutions. Participation in Shell’s Carbon Compensation Programme enables the Company to take a measured and responsible approach in addressing unavoidable emissions, while maintaining operational efficiency and continuing to meet customer needs.”

The latest agreement follows a successful initial phase in which PSP Energy received certification for retiring 729 carbon credits to offset its 2023 emissions. By leveraging Shell’s global portfolio of carbon compensation projects, the firm aims to support a more resilient energy value chain without disrupting its delivery of essential fuel solutions.
