Puro.earth, the leading crediting platform for carbon dioxide removal (CDR), has integrated the CCS+ Initiative’s CDR methodology framework — including Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) and Direct Air Capture with Carbon Capture and Storage (DACCS) — into its certification and issuance system.
The integration enables carbon removal suppliers to issue Puro CO₂ Removal Certificates (CORCs) under the CCS+ Initiative framework within the Puro Registry, creating a single, transparent system accessible to buyers through an investment-grade market infrastructure.
Puro.earth’s existing BECCS and DAC methodologies are recognised as market-leading for durable carbon removal. The alignment with the CCS+ Initiative expands certification options while maintaining the same rigorous standards of independent validation, verification, and integrity.
“As the carbon removal market matures, suppliers need flexibility and simplicity,” said Jan-Willem Bode, President of Puro.earth. “This integration allows them to certify projects under either Puro Standard or CCS+ methodologies within one platform, giving buyers confidence and streamlining project management.”
The new system, powered by the upgraded MyPuro 2.0 platform, enables project developers to manage certification efficiently without duplication or double counting. It also enhances compatibility across voluntary and compliance markets — a key advantage for large-scale BECCS developers seeking alignment with the EU Carbon Removal Certification Framework (CRCF) and Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
For buyers, the unified certification process simplifies procurement while maintaining transparency and high integrity. The development reflects growing coordination among leading carbon removal standards to reduce market fragmentation and enhance interoperability.
“One of CCS+ Initiative’s core missions is to deliver clear, interoperable MRV protocols for CCS carbon accounting,” said Pascal Siegwart, Co-founder and Chairman of the CCS+ Initiative. “Our framework, developed collaboratively with nearly 50 members under Verra’s VCS programme, will now also be available under Puro.earth.”
The move cements Puro.earth’s position as a central infrastructure provider for the carbon removal market, connecting standards, suppliers, and buyers through a shared digital ecosystem. By integrating CCS+ methodologies, Puro.earth strengthens its role in building a high-integrity, scalable market for durable carbon removals.
