Qantas expands carbon offset option to Australian travel agents

Qantas has announced a major expansion of its Voluntary Carbon Program, enabling Australian travel agents to offer customers the option to purchase carbon credits when booking flights via indirect channels. This marks the first time the national carrier has made the feature available beyond its own website.

Previously, the program—designed to support conservation and climate initiatives—was limited to bookings made directly on Qantas.com. With the enhancement now available through Qantas’ New Distribution Capability (NDC), travel agents across Australia can include carbon offset purchases for customers based in the country.

The extension is expected to boost funding for a range of environmental projects supported by Qantas, both locally and internationally. These initiatives include efforts to protect the Great Barrier Reef and collaboration with Indigenous communities in Western Australia to mitigate the impact of bushfires.

Qantas Frequent Flyer members will continue to earn 10 Qantas Points for every dollar spent on carbon credits.

The airline, which has offset its own ground and corporate travel emissions since 2007, has pledged to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050—becoming the second airline group globally to make such a commitment.

Travel agents are advised to consult their Certified Technology Partner to determine when the feature will be activated for their agency.
