The World Business Council for Sustainable Development’s (WBCSD) Global Network partner BCSD Taiwan, supported by the Taiwan Nature Positive Initiative, has launched the “Nature Positive – Taiwan Report.” This marks Taiwan’s first localised guide for natural sustainability action. Julian Hill-Landolt, Senior Director of Nature Action at WBCSD, attended the report’s launch, offering insights on nature-focused initiatives.
The report follows the 2022 adoption of the “Kunming-Montréal Global Biodiversity Framework” and incorporates methodologies like SBTN and TNFD to help businesses begin nature-positive actions by identifying direct drivers. While some Taiwanese companies are starting to embrace TNFD for pilot projects, many still need clear guidance on initiating these actions.
The “Nature Positive – Taiwan Report” aims to assist companies in identifying and implementing effective conservation measures. It utilises the ACT-D framework—Assess, Commit, Transform, Disclose—co-developed by WBCSD, WEF, and Capitals Coalition. The report includes expert insights, assessment tools, and practical case studies from Delta Electronics and Cathay Financial Holdings.
The report emphasises the risks of natural degradation and biodiversity loss, defines what it means to be nature positive, and details the ACT-D framework, which guides companies through four stages of nature action. Following this framework can enhance companies’ ability to manage natural risks and create long-term value. The experiences of Delta Electronics and Cathay Financial Holdings serve as examples to encourage broader adoption of the ACT-D framework.
The “Nature Positive – Taiwan Report” is primarily supported by members of the Taiwan Natural Positive Initiative, including Chunghwa Telecom, Taishin Holdings, Delta Electronics, Bank SinoPac, Acer, Qisda, Sinyi Realty, Advantech, Cathay Financial Holdings, Topco Scientific, and Wistron NeWeb Corporation.
Although Taiwanese companies acknowledge the importance of nature-positive actions, many lack the knowledge and experience to start. BCSD Taiwan will continue to introduce international tools and case studies to help Taiwanese companies become more familiar with nature-positive practices and take appropriate action.
