Catalytic Capital for Climate and Health (C3H), an investment vehicle under Temasek Trust, is leading a US$11.6 million Series A funding round in Equatic, a company developing seawater electrolysis technology to remove atmospheric carbon dioxide and produce carbon-negative hydrogen.
Singapore-based Kibo Invest, which focuses on climate technology, is co-leading the round. Other investors include Stacey Nicholas, the Aga Khan Foundation, filmmaker Adam McKay, and Lee Cooper. Since its inception, Equatic has received catalytic backing from Grantham Neglected Climate Opportunities.
Equatic’s patented process accelerates the ocean’s ability to absorb and permanently store carbon at scale while generating green hydrogen. The technology has undergone pilot trials in Los Angeles and Singapore and has drawn strong offtake interest. It is also certified under the ISO-14064 standard for Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV), validated by carbon removal registries Isometric and Puro.earth, enabling it to issue high-quality, auditable carbon dioxide removal (CDR) credits.
The Series A funding will support the development of Equatic’s first 100-kilotonne CDR commercial facility, as well as further commercialisation, manufacturing and technology improvements.
Ryan Tan, Head of C3H, said: “Equatic’s technology and approach exemplify the type of bold and scalable innovation that aligns with C3H’s mandate. We are delighted to support Equatic’s goal in advancing promising climate mitigation solutions that offer permanent, durable carbon removal with green hydrogen production.”
James Marshall, CEO of Kibo Invest, added: “Equatic represents an exciting opportunity to scale deep-tech innovation that addresses two critical needs: decarbonisation and clean energy. We are proud to partner with C3H and Equatic to help bring this breakthrough technology to commercial scale.”
Equatic, previously known as SeaChange, won The Liveability Challenge in 2021, receiving S$1 million in funding from Temasek Foundation, and piloted its technology in partnership with Singapore’s national water agency PUB. In 2024, it was named a finalist for The Earthshot Prize, of which Temasek Trust is a founding partner.
Gaurav N. Sant, Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Equatic, said: “This financing catalyses Equatic’s mission to deliver cost-effective and durable carbon removal at scale. The Temasek Trust ecosystem has been a foundational partner, from early philanthropic support to this catalytic investment.”
The investment underscores growing interest in scalable climate solutions, supported by collaboration between science-led innovators, philanthropic organisations and commercial backers. C3H aims to accelerate such partnerships to advance the transition to a low-carbon future.
