Toyota opens 20,000-vehicle circular factory in Poland

Toyota Motor Europe has announced the establishment of a new Circular Factory in Walbrzych, Poland, as part of its strategy to advance a circular economy model across its European operations.

The 25,000-square-metre facility is expected to process nearly 20,000 end-of-life vehicles annually. The site will apply a structured approach to dismantling and recovery, focusing on the reuse of components and the extraction of valuable raw materials.

Parts such as batteries and wheels will be assessed for remanufacturing, repurposing or recycling. Materials including copper, steel, aluminium and plastics will be recovered for use in the production of new vehicles.

The new Circular Factory will expand activities at Toyota’s existing Walbrzych plant, which manufactures components for hybrid and conventional powertrains.

Leon van der Merwe, Vice President of Circular Economy at Toyota Motor Europe, said the Poland facility is the company’s second Circular Factory in Europe, following the launch of a similar site in Burnaston, United Kingdom, in 2025.

He said Poland was selected due to the availability of end-of-life vehicles, established recycling networks and the presence of Toyota’s manufacturing infrastructure. The company plans to roll out similar investments in other European markets in the coming years.

Toyota said circularity plays a key role in reducing reliance on carbon-intensive raw materials, strengthening supply chains and lowering emissions across the vehicle value chain.
