Uniper to begin construction of first wind farm in Scotland

Uniper has confirmed it will move ahead with the construction of its first wind farm project in East Ayrshire, Scotland, marking a significant development in the company’s renewable energy expansion plans. The scheme, originally developed in partnership with Energiekontor UK Ltd, will now proceed under Uniper’s sole ownership.

The wind farm, which received initial planning approval from East Ayrshire Council in 2022 and a modified application in 2024, will consist of seven turbines with a total capacity of 46.2 megawatts. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, with electricity generation expected to commence the following year.

Once operational, the site is projected to generate enough electricity to meet the annual needs of approximately 66,000 UK households, contributing to national renewable energy targets and emissions reduction commitments.

This project forms part of Uniper’s broader investment strategy, which includes plans to invest around €8 billion in decarbonisation initiatives by the early 2030s. The company is targeting the development of up to 10 gigawatts of solar and onshore wind projects across Europe, focusing on markets including the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Sweden, Hungary, and Poland.
