Neste and United Airlines have broadened their collaboration to include the supply of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to three additional US airports — George Bush Intercontinental (Houston), Newark Liberty International (New Jersey), and Dulles International (Washington D.C.). The move makes United the first commercial airline to operate flights using SAF from all three hubs.
Under the agreement, Neste will provide neat Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™, which will be blended with conventional jet fuel to meet regulatory specifications. Deliveries began in July at Houston’s George Bush Airport and will continue through October 2025, while supplies to Newark and Dulles commenced in September and are set to run until the end of the year. The fuel is transported via existing pipeline infrastructure from Neste’s terminal facilities in Houston.
“Introducing sustainable aviation fuel for the first time at our hubs in Houston, Newark, and Dulles is another significant milestone in United’s sustainability journey,” said Lauren Riley, United’s Chief Sustainability Officer. “We remain the leading SAF user in the U.S., but market growth requires clear policy support. We’ll continue to collaborate with partners like Neste and advocate for sensible incentives that drive lower-carbon aviation.”
Carl Nyberg, Senior Vice President of Commercial, Renewable Products at Neste, added: “We are thrilled to enable United Airlines to expand SAF use to new markets. To accelerate SAF adoption and achieve the aviation industry’s net-zero ambitions by 2050, more states must introduce effective incentive frameworks.”
The expansion builds on the existing partnership between Neste and United, which began with SAF supplies to Chicago O’Hare International Airport in 2024 and San Francisco International Airport under California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS).
