Verde Resources Inc., through its subsidiary Verde Renewables Inc., has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Ergon Asphalt & Emulsions, Inc. to advance the commercialisation of a low-emission asphalt technology developed through their ongoing collaboration. The agreement builds on a partnership announced in February 2025, which focused on the development of a cold mix biochar-asphalt surface material tested at the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT).
The proprietary formulation, developed by Verde, integrates a custom emulsifying agent and biochar—a carbon-sequestering material—into asphalt production. According to the companies, the process enables low-temperature emulsion production with at least 20% fewer greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional methods. The resulting asphalt surface reportedly enhances durability while contributing to emissions reduction efforts.
In April, the technology enabled what Verde described as the world’s first issuance of carbon removal credits from asphalt production and installation, based on performance data from the NCAT test track.
The newly signed MOU outlines plan to finalise commercial terms for an exclusive U.S. market agreement and initiate further validation of the technology at Ergon’s Paragon asphalt and materials testing laboratory.
The companies state that the goal is to accelerate adoption of asphalt technologies that contribute to lower Scope emissions and align with evolving sustainability expectations in infrastructure development.
This latest development marks a further step in integrating low-carbon solutions into mainstream road construction practices, as both companies explore the feasibility of broader market deployment.
