Verra expands digital access to carbon capture and storage methodology

Verra has released its carbon capture and storage (CCS) methodology, VM0049 Carbon Capture and Storage v1.0, in digital form under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program, marking another milestone in its ongoing digitalisation initiative. The methodology, along with four related modules (VMD0056, VMD0057, VMD0058, and VMD0059), is now available on the Verra Project Hub through the Digital Project Submission Tool.

The digital release aims to streamline the registration and management of CCS projects, making it easier for proponents to generate verified carbon credits. By digitising methodologies, Verra seeks to accelerate finance flows to projects that remove or reduce carbon dioxide emissions, enhance resource efficiency, and deliver socio-environmental co-benefits.

Verra has urged project developers to adopt digital versions as they become available. With the inclusion of VM0049, the organisation now offers 23 digitalised methodologies across its programmes. A consolidated resource compiling all digitalised methodologies from Verra’s various programmes is also under development.

Several additional methodologies are currently undergoing User Acceptance Testing, including:

  • ACM0009: Fuel switching from coal or petroleum fuel to natural gas (v3.2)
  • AM0023: Leak detection and repair in gas production, transmission, and refinery systems (v4.0.0)
  • VM0008: Weatherization of Single and Multi-Family Buildings (v1.2)

The move underscores Verra’s broader effort to modernise carbon market infrastructure and support more efficient, transparent climate action.
