Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast has obtained a USD 100 million green loan facility from MUFG Bank, marking the start of a long-term partnership to advance the global green transition.
The facility, structured as a green loan, will finance VinFast’s development as a pure-electric vehicle company and support its international expansion strategy. The funds are expected to be channelled into key projects to strengthen the company’s presence in Asia, accelerate revenue growth and reduce costs in pursuit of long-term success.
Pham Nguyen Anh Thu, Deputy CEO of Investment at VinFast, described the agreement as a milestone: “The inaugural USD 100 million green credit facility from MUFG Bank not only bolsters our financial capacity but also reaffirms our commitment to the global green energy transition. We value MUFG’s leadership in sustainable finance in Vietnam and look forward to a long-term and prosperous partnership.”
Takao Nozaki, MUFG Bank’s Managing Director and Regional Head of Vietnam, said the deal underscored MUFG’s confidence in VinFast’s growth trajectory: “We are delighted to support VinFast’s emergence as a pioneering force in the electric vehicle industry. Our partnership reflects MUFG’s strategic priorities in net-zero cooperation and clean energy growth globally.”
The collaboration highlights MUFG’s expanding role in Vietnam’s sustainable development agenda. As chair of the Banking Working Group (2023–2025), the bank has worked with Vietnamese ministries on green finance, carbon credits, start-up support and ESG initiatives.
This agreement signals a deepening commitment from both parties to explore opportunities in the fast-growing EV sector while creating positive value for communities and contributing to global climate goals.
