Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer VinFast has unveiled a streamlined strategic roadmap for 2026 and beyond, prioritising industrial scale, unit-cost optimisation, and a technology-led transformation to achieve global profitability.
During a recent earnings call, Chairwoman Madame Thuy Le confirmed that the firm is moving into a “disciplined phase,” leveraging artificial intelligence and smart manufacturing to lower the total cost of ownership for consumers in the US and beyond.
Central to VinFast’s efficiency drive is its collaboration with VinRobotics. By integrating industrial humanoid robots and AI-enabled automation into its assembly lines, the carmaker aims to achieve:
- Higher automation rates: Reducing structural costs over time.
- Consistency: Real-time AI monitoring to ensure premium build quality.
- Scalability: Streamlining production as volumes increase to meet US demand.
VinFast has categorised its portfolio into three distinct pillars to address diverse market segments:
- The VF range: The core global offering, spanning the compact VF 3 to the full-size VF 9. Next-generation iterations of the VF 6 and VF 7 are expected to begin production later this year, featuring simplified architectures to reduce manufacturing costs.
- The Green Brand: A dedicated line for fleet and logistics optimisation, featuring models such as the Limo Green and Minio Green.
- Lac Hong: An ultra-luxury venture into the high-end EV space. Following the 900 LX, the new 800S and 900S models were unveiled this month, with a market launch slated for 2027.
Beyond the factory floor, VinFast is accelerating its shift from Level 2+ driver assistance toward Level 4 (L4) autonomy. The company has entered a strategic partnership with AI firm Tensor, acting as the industrial partner for Tensor’s “robocar” programme. This “hybrid” R&D model allows VinFast to integrate cutting-edge autonomous technology while maintaining strict capital discipline.
In a significant shift from the direct-to-consumer model, VinFast is rapidly expanding its nationwide dealership network across the United Kingdom and the US. This move is designed to bolster consumer trust through localised aftersales support and more efficient vehicle delivery.
