Starbucks, Mercedes-Benz collaborate to expand EV charging network

Starbucks, in partnership with Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging, has announced a significant initiative to install high-power electric vehicle (EV) chargers at over 100 of its stores in the USA.

The initial phase of this programme will focus on equipping locations along the 1,400-mile stretch of Interstate 5 a critical west coast travel corridor, targeting both urban centres and areas with limited charging infrastructure.

The selected Starbucks locations on I-5 will be equipped with the Alpitronic Hypercharger 400, featuring NACS cables suitable for a wide range of vehicle voltages. Further expansions are planned, including potential locations on the East Coast, reflecting a broader commitment to environmental sustainability and community support.

Michael Kobori, Starbucks chief sustainability officer said, “Partnering with Mercedes is the next step in expanding our EV charging network so our customers can refuel sustainably while they enjoy Starbucks.”

Andrew Cornelia, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging said, “We envision a future where charging your vehicle is as easy as enjoying your favourite Starbucks.”
