Microsoft & EDP Renováveis sign solar power deal

Tech giant Microsoft has signed a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with EDP Renováveis (EDPR), the renewables division of EDP – Energias de Portugal SA. As per the deal, EDPR will supply supply 200 MWp of solar power to Microsoft in Singapore. This deal marks the second collaboration between EDPR and Microsoft in the region, strengthening their renewable energy partnership.

EDPR will channel the entire output from the recently acquired SolarNova 8 project to Microsoft. This initiative involves the installation of solar panels across over 1,000 public housing buildings and more than 100 government-owned facilities in Singapore, significantly boosting the local renewable energy infrastructure.

Miguel Stilwell d’Andrade, CEO of EDP and EDPR, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership’s potential impact and said, “We are strengthening EDP’s global collaboration with Microsoft through this project, and together we are taking a step towards achieving Singapore’s sustainability goals of at least 2 GW peak of solar energy by 2030.”
