Guide for investors engaging with petrochemical companies released

Planet Tracker, a non-profit think tank, has published a ‘Shareholder Engagement Guide’ focused on the petrochemical industry and plastic pollution.

Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions linked to petrochemicals and plastics are projected to increase under a business-as-usual (BAU) scenario, with lifecycle emissions from plastics expected to more than double by 2060, reaching 4.5% of global emissions.

This guide aims to assist investors in engaging with petrochemical companies on their role in tackling plastic pollution. It outlines strategies for advancing the five key requests detailed in the petrochemical investor statement. The guide includes key reasons for investor engagement with the petrochemical sector. It also has suggested questions for fostering meaningful dialogues and additional resources on the five key asks from the Investor Statement.
