Energy Web unveils App enabling 100% renewable-powered EV charging

Energy Web, a software company, has launched the beta version of AutoGreenCharge, a mobile app aimed at making electric vehicle (EV) charging fully powered by renewable energy. The app allows EV owners to ensure their vehicles are charged with green energy, offering a simple, secure, and verifiable way to decarbonise every charging session.

AutoGreenCharge is designed for a wide range of popular electric vehicles, including Tesla, BMW, and Mercedes. Powered by Energy Web’s decentralised platform, EnergywebX, and secured by the Polkadot blockchain, the app integrates renewable energy certificates (RECs) to automatically match EV charging with clean energy sources in real time.

“AutoGreenCharge represents a major step forward in the electrification and decarbonisation of transportation. By providing EV owners with a seamless way to ensure their cars are charged with renewable energy, we’re empowering drivers to make more sustainable choices and actively contribute to the global energy transition,” said Mani Hagh Sefat, CTO of Energy Web.

Through a partnership with Smart Car, AutoGreenCharge enables users to easily connect their vehicles, track their charging sessions, and gain insights into their energy consumption and environmental impact. In future iterations, the app will allow users to retire RECs with each charging session, guaranteeing their vehicles are powered by sustainable energy. Additionally, users will be able to personalise their charging experience by selecting preferred renewable energy sources, such as solar or wind, from specific global locations.

The app’s use of the Polkadot blockchain ensures transparency, security, and verifiability for every transaction and certificate retirement, enhancing trust in the system. As the beta version is now available on the Apple and Google Play stores, EV owners are encouraged to download AutoGreenCharge and participate in the future of sustainable charging.
