Kapture & PERMAcast partner to trial CO2 sequestration in concrete

Australian carbon capture company Kapture has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with PERMAcast, a leading company in the concrete industry, to collaborate on trials aimed at sequestering carbon dioxide (CO2) in concrete. The partnership focuses on developing new methods to integrate captured CO2 into concrete, with the goal of enhancing material strength and reducing the environmental footprint of the production process.

Darren Hedley, CEO of PERMAcast, expressed the significance of the collaboration and said, “Our collaboration with Kapture represents a transformative step for the concrete manufacturing industry. By integrating captured CO2 into our concrete products, we can improve the material’s strength and significantly reduce our operations’ environmental impact. This partnership exemplifies the power of industry collaboration in creating sustainable solutions that benefit the environment and the economy.”

The upcoming trials, set to begin in October 2024, will assess the feasibility and scalability of incorporating captured CO2 in concrete production. By embedding carbon into the mixture, the initiative aims to reduce the carbon footprint of concrete, a key material in global construction. Findings from these trials are expected later in the year.

This partnership aligns with a growing trend in the construction industry toward developing low-carbon concrete solutions.
