Verra, the world’s leading standards for climate action and sustainable development, has released version 2.0 of its Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Methodology Revision VMR0004, aimed at improving the efficiency of fleet vehicles.
This methodology applies to projects that enhance the efficiency of vehicle fleets, including transport vehicles and mobile machinery, leading to reduced greenhouse gas emissions from fuel and electricity consumption.
The revision introduces the use of telematics systems for tracking individual vehicles, allowing continuous monitoring of odometer readings, fuel usage, and operational time. This data is stored in a centralised database, simplifying project monitoring.
The update also aligns the methodology with net-zero transition goals by setting a cut-off date for the inclusion of new fossil fuel vehicles and ensuring compatibility with national and regional decarbonization strategies.
Additionally, it includes a conservativeness deduction based on uncertainty assessments and improves the additionality demonstration by incorporating the investment analysis option, requiring a common practice analysis, and removing the common practice barrier.
