Enterprise Products & 1PointFive partner to develop CO₂ transport network

Enterprise Products Partners has announced an agreement to build a CO₂ transportation network to support carbon capture company 1PointFive’s hub in southeast Texas, enabling the transport of emissions from third-party facilities to the Bluebonnet Sequestration Hub for storage. This network will serve industrial sites near the Houston Ship Channel, forming part of Occidental’s 1PointFive carbon management initiative.

The US Department of Energy’s Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations pledged up to $500 million last month to support the hub’s development, signaling significant federal backing for carbon sequestration infrastructure. Earlier this year, 1PointFive also signed deals with Microsoft and AT&T for the sale of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) credits, which allow companies to offset their emissions.

Carbon credits, tradable permits equivalent to one metric ton of carbon dioxide or similar greenhouse gases, are used by companies to meet emissions reduction targets while supporting carbon capture initiatives.

“We are excited to reach this milestone and look forward to collaborating with Enterprise to build a CO2 transportation network for our sequestration hub, which is designed to provide a reliable and efficient way for hard-to-abate sectors to address their CO2 emissions,” said Jeff Alvarez, President of 1PointFive Sequestration, adding, “This agreement pairs our expertise managing large volumes of CO2 with Enterprise’s decades of midstream experience to bring confidence to industrial customers seeking a decarbonisation solution.”

“This project with 1PointFive builds upon the strong working relationship we have had with Occidental for many years,” said Bob Sanders, Executive Vice President of Asset Optimisation for Enterprise’s general partner. He added, “By leveraging our proven midstream expertise and integrated network of assets, we are well positioned to provide a reliable and cost-efficient CO2 transportation solution.”
